Artist's Note: We don’t know the age of the widow who cast in “all that she had.” I decided to put a younger woman with children in the painting rather than an older woman. This, I thought, better represented the sacrifice that the woman made. Even as others were depending on her, she put her trust in the arm of God rather than the arm of flesh.
The man in the background, giving only of his surplus, is a reminder to us to be generous and kind to those in need of our support.
