These alabaster bookends feature a classic image of Bl. Cardinal Henry Newman and a prayer he wrote. Able to keep heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for converts to the Catholic faith, as Newman was, or to anyone with a devotion to this great man who pointed so many in the English nation to Christ.
The original portrait was painted by John Everett Millais in 1881.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.
Text reads:
"O my Lord Jesus, low as I am in Your all-holy sight, I am strong in You, strong through Your Immaculate Mother, through Your saints and thus I can do much for the Church, for the world, for all I love.
